Maria Pertile

Maria feels that Sage Practices describes her entire life… the eternal search for knowledge and practices that include wisdom for the mind, body, and soul.

The definition of sage is:  a wise person, a divinely inspired philosopher, or one who seeks knowledge.

New Beginnings

Sage Practices was founded in 2008 by Maria Pertile

When her pilates instructor, Rise Karns-Stokstad, asked her if she would be interested in a joint business venture. At that point Maria, Rise, Donna Johnson-Herring and Debbie Jump opened the first Stott Pilates co-op studio in Cedar Rapids.

After having taught and working for others for many years, the idea of forming a new business was an exciting and scary challenge, but looking deep in her heart, Maria knew starting Sage Practices was the right move.

As Sage Practices has evolved over the years, Maria has as well.  Maria has journeyed throughout her career from group fitness, to pilates, to yoga and to holistic healing – knowing each step of the way that there is always more to learn.  With each educational experience she participates in she adds to her “toolbox” of knowledge and it brings her great joy to share this wealth of information and experience with all of her students and clients.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of Sage Practices to continually learn and share knowledge that enhances and reveals the natural wisdom and healing power that resides within our mind, body, and soul.

Sound healing is a complementary modality using various instruments to invite harmonious sounds and frequencies into the body to encourage one to return to their natural state of resonance. Maria is a certified Atma Buti® Sound Healing Practitioner and teacher of the Atma Buti® method. Sage Practices offers wise sound healing work at both group and private levels.

Wise movement is movement that is healing and nourishing for the body. Yoga and pilates are the main modalities offered at Sage Practices and whether taken in a classroom or private setting, movement with attention and awareness can bring positive results on all levels of one’s being.

Education is the key to any wise practice. Maria is continually expanding her knowledge base with various training and workshops and this is reflected in the offerings at Sage Practices.

As a certified teacher of the Atma Buti® method, Maria offers the Level I and Level II “Learn to Heal with the Singing Bowl” workshops sharing the lineage of Suren Shrestha, author and founder of the Atma Buti School. Sage Practices also offers many various workshops and educational classes custom designed to your needs.
